Comment on Rediscovering Tethering by Martha Tyler https://tethertools.com/blog/rediscovering-tethering/comment-page-1/#comment-161993 Fri, 15 May 2020 02:23:21 +0000 https://tethertalk.com/?p=17469#comment-161993 Thanks for writing this. I love taking pictures. It’s my hobby not my profession. I am retired and have some limitations that would make tethering my Canon t3i a great help. I have the walking and carrying my equipment down. I use a walker for long distance. The walker I use has 10″ wheels in from and a seat so it can go where most walkers are unable to go, dirt, grass, gravel (haven’t tried sand). I am unable to see as well as I once could so tethering would help with a bigger screen. Also, I am not able to get down on the ground to take lower shots. I recently was given lens balls to play with. I would need to be able to take pictures at a lower angle. Again, tethering would help. Now to my questions. I have a Mac mini and MacBook Air. The MacBook Air could be used but I find it awkward. My iPhone is too small. I am thinking of an iPad or android tablet. Not sure which would be best and or even which model would fit my needs. I need to be able to download the software. I welcome your advice and any suggestions you might have. This is something that can be used by other people who cannot get to ground level. BTW, I can get down but not back up.

Comment on Don’t Let Catalina Compatibility Issues Disrupt Your Tethered Workflow by Rachel Godoy https://tethertools.com/blog/dont-let-catalina-compatibility-issues-disrupt-your-tethered-workflow/comment-page-1/#comment-162042 Tue, 21 Apr 2020 21:37:33 +0000 https://tethertalk.com/?p=16939#comment-162042 In reply to Johnny.

Thank you for the comment and we completely understand your frustration. Please know we want to solve this issue as quickly as possible.

When Catalina was initially launched, with version 10.15, the Air Direct ADU was fully compatible with all of the tethering software applications. The second Catalina release, 10.15.2, made a major change to System Kernel Extensions (KEXTS) which the ADU utilizes via its Driver. Drivers can no longer create KEXTS, instead Drivers need to use Apple’s new DriverKit and build drivers in UserSpace. We have had to go back and develop a new Driver which take time. We have a working Driver but it still requires more testing and optimization.

In the meantime, we have been recommending Smart Shooter as it works with Catalina. Smart Shooter uses a the most a different communication method between Camera and Computer and talks directly to the computer’s Kernel; this method bypasses Apple’s new UserSpace. This was not planned or intentional, it just worked out this way. Lightroom and Capture One both communicate via ImageCaptureCore which requires communications go through UserSpace.

I hope this helps clarify. Again, we understand your frustration and appreciate your patience. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

This is still a problem!

The product is worthless for users working on Macs running Catalina (OS released in October 2019). I would really like to know what Tether Tools are doing to fix this? And please make it an honest answer and not to kind of BS sales department answer! I do not wish to purchase another software just to be able to use the AirDirect, which was supposed to work with Adobe Lightroom or Capture One.

Comment on What Photographers Need to Know About the CARES Act by joseph rodriguez https://tethertools.com/blog/what-photographers-need-to-know-about-the-cares-act/comment-page-1/#comment-162003 Fri, 10 Apr 2020 15:06:41 +0000 https://tethertalk.com/?p=17289#comment-162003 Thanks for the info on this. Your products are great but at this time pretty worthless if there is no work. I am keeping my chin up and my advertising going. There is a rainbow at the end.

To Mark Gilvey,

I am a photographer in TX and have my own business (since 1987) I have not employees but sub-contract photographers all the time. Here is a link

We are all in this same boat. I have someone on my team doing everything possible to get ahead of the curve (so to speak). Also as hard as it is I would try to get unemployment that is setup for this pandemic. Best of luck

I have a studio rent, utilities, internet, and subscription to pay for. It looks like you have to have staff before it will cover any of this. Where does that leave me?
