Kira Derryberry
Kira Derryberry is a portrait photographer based in Tallahassee, FL. She found her start as a teenager, spending hours in darkrooms in high school and college. Kira graduated with a BA from the University of Alabama with photography as her focus. Knowing how to shoot, but not necessarily how to start a business, Kira leaned on her experience as a web designer for work, taking a job at a Tallahassee based advertising agency for 5 years before making the leap to opening her studio in 2010. Since her studio opening, Kira has developed a strong client base in portraits ranging from children and families, to headshots, commercial work, and boudoir. When not slinging a camera or hanging with her husband and little girl, she spends much of the remainder of her free time playing video games and watching bad science fiction.
Kira is an active member of the photography community and attributes much of her success to being a participant in photography organizations such as her local photography guild Tallahassee Professional Photographers, her state PPA affiliate Florida Professional Photographers, and Professional Photographers of America. She’s a Master Photographer, Photographic Craftsman, Certified Professional Photographer, Director for Florida Professional Photographers, and was recently elected to the Board of Directors for Professional Photographers of America. She’s been a speaker at photography groups and conventions around the country including most recently at Imaging USA 2017. Kira is a competitor in both the state and International Print Competitions and earned silver medals in 2014 and 2015 and a Platinum medal in 2016 at the International Print Competition. Her PPA Loan Collection Image, “The Skeptic” was featured on the March 2016 Cover of Professional Photographer Magazine along with a feature article on her work.
